Estimating floodwater depth using SAR-derived flood inundation maps and geomorphic model in kosi river basin (India)

Flooding is the most widespread and frequent natural disaster in developing countries. Until recent years, determining flood extent inundation depth were undertaken using hydrodynamic models but have pertinence constraints data-scarce regions. This has given new potential to characterize floods (e.g., inundation, depth, duration) at a large-scale geomorphic approach. The SAR data was employed derive 12.5 m resolution DEM-based method applied determine flooded domains of Kosi River Basin (KRB) North Bihar (India) 2017 floods. total inundated area over KRB estimated 4,108.2 km2 (20.88%). Most (2,750 km2, 14%) land had water 0.1 1 m. approach appropriate for characterizing data-sparse basins like afforded horizon risk assessment on vulnerable areas.
